SOUTH COUNTY LAND AND SEA
RHODE ISLAND TOUR
June 6, 2026
September 17, 2026
South County is Rhode island’s southernmost region, covering a large expanse including the sandy beaches along the Atlantic Ocean!
The area is well known for the portrait painter, Gilbert Stuart, who produced one of the most famous images of George Washington; and Smith's Castle, the waterfront Colonial-era home of one of the state’s earliest traders. Miles of natural preserve and woodlands can be found here, in addition to many famous beaches and summer homes and cottages.
We will begin our day with a visit to Clouds Hill Museum, a Victorian house museum, built as a wedding gift for Elizabeth Ives Slater, and now owned by Anne, the great granddaughter who invites visitors into her home, which is also the museum. Here we will be served refreshments on the grand porch as we then begin our tour of this magnificent home and its grounds. 1 hour
We will then move onto our luncheon location at Chelo’s on the Water. The views are as wonderful as the food you will enjoy! Choice of three entrée selections followed by a wonderful dessert. 1.5 hours
On board the 350-passenger ferry boat you will then experience a Lighthouse Cruise through Narragansett Bay, featuring 10 lighthouses, 10 islands, and all of Newport Harbor in this 90 minute fully narrated tour. 1.5 hours
What better way to end your delightful day with a tour and a tasting at a Local Winery and Vineyard. Here you will be provided with a full flight of four wine samplings, along with a presentation by June, the professional wine curator and specialist. For those interested, a walk through the vineyards is also available. 1.0 hours
